    MISTAKE #1: Brushing Too Hard

    If you are one of those people who thinks harder is better then let’s clue you in…

    Hard brushing is bad. Period. That’s right no amount of proper home oral care can counter the damage that comes from aggressive brushing.

    Use a soft touch about the same amount of pressure you would use to write with a pencil.

    MISTAKE #2: Using The Wrong Products

    This goes for everything from toothbrushes to toothpaste and everything in between. Not all dental health products are made equal so read your labels.

    That popular charcoal toothpaste may seem like a great idea but it could be too abrasive to use every day. Those whitening strips may be making your teeth too sensitive to wear for long.

    MISTAKE #3: Inconsistent Timing

    Brushing immediately after a meal is actually not a good idea. If you have eaten something acidic your tooth enamel is temporarily softened. Brushing immediately can do more harm than good.

    Wait at least 30 minutes after a meal before you brush.

    MISTAKE #4: Ignoring Your Gums

    Your gums need just as much love and attention as your teeth. Healthy gums should be pink and firm not red or swollen. If your gums bleed when you brush or floss this is a sign of inflammation.

    With consistent care and attention the bleeding should stop within a week or two.
