    Are You Joining Hyrox? Here’s How to Prepare Your Mind and Body for the Race

    Hyrox is undoubtedly one of the biggest fitness competitions in the world, attracting more than half a million athletes in more than 80 races this year alone. In Australia, races take place in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth where athletes test their limits in the quest for fitness supremacy.

    Now if you’re one of the thousands of athletes who are joining the Australian leg of Hyrox this year, it’s very important to prepare your mind and body with the help of a Hyrox work out, proper nutrition and mind conditioning. Here are the tips that you can follow: 

    • Get proper training.

    It doesn’t matter if you’ve been working out religiously for years, Hyrox requires a special training that will not only help you strengthen your body but also train it to last all the obstacles that will come your way. The competition combines eight one-kilometer runs with eight workout stations that will really test you in every aspect of your fitness, strength and agility. So instead of just exercising on your own, it’s best to train with a professional coach who knows exactly what this race needs and guide you in preparing your body for the challenges ahead. Professional training also helps you track your progress and get insights from a community of athletes who have joined the race before.

    • Nourish your body for the race.

    The truth is, all your training will be nothing if you don’t nourish your body properly. In fact, experts would always emphasise the importance of nutrition in personal training, especially if you’re doing it for a race. Since you will be using up a lot of energy to complete the competition, you have to pack in a lot of protein and carbohydrates into your diet. Protein will not only help give you more energy for the race, but it will also help you recover faster after. Carbohydrates, on the other hand, will serve as your fuel from your training to the actual race. Of course, you can’t forget about proper hydration using a combination of water and electrolyte drinks. 

    • Prepare your mind for the race.

    More than a test of strength and endurance, Hyrox is a test of mental toughness. As you move on from one obstacle to the other, your mind will start to tell you that your body is tired, and in most cases, this will be your toughest battle. But you can prepare your mind for what is to come. For one, make sure that you’re familiar with the setup of the venue by arriving early. Get enough rest before the race and wear the right outfit and gear to make sure that you’re comfortable. You should also condition your mind to deal with the pain, soreness and mental battle during the race.
